Are you a cafeteria Christian? Do you pick and choose, selecting only what you want to believe and overlooking that which you don't like or makes you uncomfortable? As times become more perilous for us and our loved ones, we can no longer half-heartily embrace The Bible. We must explore The Bible's depths and immerse ourselves in a baptism of knowledge and understanding.
As brother Pat Buchanan so forcefully put it in his speech at the 1992 Republican National Convention: "There is a religious war going on in our country for the soul of America. It is a cultural war, as critical to the kind of nation we will one day be as was the Cold War itself." Together you and I can fight this war by following the examples in the Scriptures.
Did Jesus tell us to search the Scriptures? He did (John 5:39). Did Jesus tell us the Scriptures cannot be broken? He did (John 10:35). Would Jesus tell us to search the Scriptures if they were not the infallible Word of God? He would not! And of course the Old Testament Scriptures were the Scriptures Jesus was referring to. It won't always be easy applying the Old and New Testament Scriptures to our everyday lives, and it will sometimes be painful. But cafeteria Christians are not true believers, they are a mockery of God. We shall not be cafeteria Christians. We shall not pick and choose. We will embrace ALL of God's words.
In my current series, "How do I know? Because The Bible tells me so," we will look at today's adversities and challenges, both personal and national, and find solutions in The Bible. I will update the Web page with additions to the series as the Spirit moves me. And now, just as Samson used the jawbone of an ass to slew a thousand Philistines, let us use the Word of God to slew the wicked who try to resist us.
Remember, "For I am the LORD, I change not;" Malachi 3:6
Are you a cafeteria Christian—someone who picks and chooses which parts of the Bible to believe while ignoring the rest? Do you accept only what is comfortable and convenient, leaving behind the truths that challenge you? As the world grows more perilous for us and our loved ones, we can no longer afford to embrace Scripture half-heartedly. Instead, we must dive deep into its wisdom, allowing ourselves to be immersed in the knowledge and understanding that God provides.
As Brother Pat Buchanan boldly declared in his 1992 Republican National Convention speech: "There is a religious war going on in our country for the soul of America. It is a cultural war, as critical to the kind of nation we will one day be as was the Cold War itself."
This battle is real, and we must fight it—not with worldly weapons, but with the power of God's Word. The Bible is not a book of suggestions; it is the divine and infallible truth.
The Authority of Scripture Did Jesus command us to search the Scriptures? Yes, He did (John 5:39).
Did He declare that the Scriptures cannot be broken? Yes, He did (John 10:35). Would our Lord instruct us to study the Scriptures if they were anything less than the perfect Word of God? Certainly not! The very Scriptures Jesus referred to were the Old Testament, and they remain just as relevant and authoritative today.
Living according to God's Word is not always easy. Applying both the Old and New Testament teachings to our daily lives can be challenging, even painful. But we are called to full obedience, not selective belief. Cafeteria Christianity—where one accepts some parts of Scripture while rejecting others—is a mockery of God. We must not fall into that trap. Instead, we must stand firm in faith, embracing the entirety of God's Word with unwavering conviction.
A Call to Action In my current series, “How Do I Know? Because the Bible Tells Me So,” we will examine the trials and tribulations of our time—both personal and national—and uncover the solutions found in Scripture. As the Spirit moves me, I will update this series with biblical insights to help guide us in our walk with Christ.Just as Samson used the jawbone of a donkey to defeat a thousand Philistines, we will wield the sword of God's Word against the forces that seek to lead us astray. Let us stand together, grounded in the truth of Scripture, ready to face the challenges ahead with faith and courage.
